Admitted applicants will need to apply for a J-1 visa. To be eligible for this visa, you will need to provide evidence of English proficiency. At this stage, you are not required to provide evidence of proficiency in the English language. Nevertheless, please indicate if:

1) You have earned a degree from an institution of higher education that operates in English.

2) You have taken a TOEFL test and scored at least 79 or an IELT test and scored at least 6.5.

If not, you may still proceed with your application. If admitted into the Program, you'll have to sign up for an exam time with UT Austin's Texas Global English Language Center (ELC) so they can ascertain your proficiency in English. The Program will assist you in scheduling the interview with ELC and cover the exam cost.

To proceed with EoI submission, applicants must have identified at least one potential UT Austin faculty who could act as their scientific host during their stay at UT Austin. Therefore, applicants are encouraged to proactively look for potential hosts at UT Austin and contact them in advance.
